Belt and Road -BRI is a global infrastructure development strategy adopted by the Chinese government in 2013 to invest in nearly 70 countries and international organizations. It is considered the cornerstone of the foreign policy of the secretary general of the communist party of China and president Xi Jinping. "Belt" refers to the proposed overland routes for road and rail transport through landlocked central Asia along the famous historic trade routes of the western regions. As for the "Road," the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" refers briefly to the Indo-Pacific sea routes to south Asia, the middle east and Africa via southeast Asia.
