日本電子出版市場與電子書暢讀服務之考察

摘要


日本的出版市場,是由紙本印刷市場和數位出版市場所組成,其中,數位出版市場又劃分為電子雜誌、電子漫畫,以及文字類別電子書。 相較於紙本印刷市場持續了二十年以上的低迷窘境,數位出版市場不斷地向上成長。除了歸功於攜帶型電子通訊設備的普及之外,在各式各樣的電子書相關服務的推廣和並行之下,電子書的使用有了顯著地增加,市場規模也逐漸擴大。在那當中,筆者對電子書暢讀服務產生了濃厚興趣。 本論文以日本的數位出版市場作為研究對象,目的在於研究電子書暢讀服務之發展及其帶來的影響。首先,引用出版科學研究所和Impress綜合研究所等機關所發表的關於出版市場的調查數據,並分別以紙本印刷市場、數位出版市場,以及整個出版市場的現狀進行個別分析。數位出版市場的規模和日漸衰退的紙本印刷市場不同,年年持續增長當中,然而卻無法阻止出版市場整體的萎縮。 接著,下一章回溯了電子書的歷史,從電子書的誕生到數位出版市場的形成進行了考察。從無網路的單機時代開始,電子書經歷了許多不同的型態,直到現在是以對應智慧型手機和平板電腦的形態最為普遍。然後,根據時間順序對數位出版市場的擴大進行了分析,並且針對活躍於各個不同時期的電子書服務做了探討。 除此之外,由於數位出版市場導入了近年備受矚目的電子書暢讀服務,使得電子雜誌市場得以起死回生,另外,電子漫畫市場目前雖然是以免費漫畫APP和單本購入型態為主,但電子漫畫的暢讀服務也確實獲得另一部分讀者群的支持。至於文字類別電子書,雖然現階段的市場規模較小且較多為單本型態的購入,但是隨著未來電子數位化的更加普及,文字類別電子書的市場仍有很大的成長空間。 最後,根據上述考察的內容,針對未來的市場趨向做了預測,由於現階段數位出版市場的擴大尙不足以彌補紙本印刷市場的萎縮,所以日本出版市場的市場規模將會持續縮小。只不過,在電子書暢讀服務等等各類相關數位出版服務的活躍之下,電子數位化會更加地盛行,數位出版市場也將會繼續擴大下去。究竟會成長到什麼地步呢?以及未來是否有機會追上紙本印刷市場的規模呢?數位出版市場的發展值得矚目。

Japan’s publishing market is comprised of the paper printing market and the digital publishing market. The electronic publishing company can be divided into electronic magazines, electronic comic books, and words-based e-books. Compared to the paper printing market, which underwent more than twenty years’ downturn, the digital publishing market has been growing steadily. Besides the attribution of the widespread use of portable electronic communication devices, the promotion and execution of various e-books-related services also contributed to the apparent growth of e-books. E-book market has also expanded gradually. During this time, I’ve come to develop a deep interest in the e-book free-reading service. The subject of my research is Japan’s digital publishing market. The objective is to study the development of e-book’s service and its effects. First, I extracted research data regarding the publishing market published by出版科学研究所 and Impress 綜合研究所. Next, I analyzed the current situations of the paper printing market, digital publishing market and the entire publishing market respectively. Despite continuously growing annually, the scale of the digital publishing market is still unable to stop the shrinking of the publishing market as a whole. The scale of the digital publishing market is different from the paper printing market, which is gradually decaying. Second, the next chapter looks back on the history of e-books, exploring the birth of e-books to the formation of digital publishing market. Since the era of stand-alone games which was without the internet, e-books has undergone various forms. Now, the most popular forms of e-books are in smartphones and laptops. Next, I analyzed the expansion of the digital publishing market in chronological order, and probed into the services of e-books in different times. In addition, the electronic magazine market was able to revive because the digital publishing market had introduced the e-book free-reading service, which has drawn a lot of attention in recent years. Although the current electronic comic book market is mainly about free comic books applications and single-book purchases, the e-book free-reading service has also gained support from a different group of readers. As of words-based e-books, even though the current market scale is smaller and mainly took form in single-book purchases, with the widespread of future electronic digitization, words-based e-books still have a lot of room for growth. Lastly, I made a prediction regarding the future trend of the market based on my research above. Since the expansion of the current digital publishing market cannot compensate for the shrinking of the paper publishing market, the market scale of Japan’s publishing market will continue to shrink. Despite this, due to the expansion of various digital publishing services including e-book free-reading service, electronic digitalization will continue to prevail, and the digital publishing market will continue to grow. How will it continue to grow? And will it have a chance to catch up to the scale of the paper publishing market? The development of the digital publishing market is worthy of our attention.
