On the first day of last year 2011, we initiated internationalization of the official journal of the Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry. We opened the official website (www.jkacd.org) of the Journal of Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry (JKACD) in English. Ever since the first issue of JKACD was published in 1975, the journal has grown to become a major dental journal in Korea. It became a bimonthly journal in 2001 and published 6 issues of volume 36 in 2011. At the end of 2011, the journal was indexed in KoreaMed.

Since KACD's celebration of 50th Anniversary at the 2009 Autumn Scientific Meeting of KACD and the 11th Joint Meeting between KACD and Japanese Society of Conservative Dentistry (JSCD), we have been looking forward to upgrade our journal by internationalizing ourselves. We opened our English journal homepage, invited foreign experts as Editorial Members and reviewers, and improved the editorial system. From the first issue of volume 37 in March 1, 2012, we have changed the journal name to Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics (RDE), by which we aim to accentuate the subdivisions of Conservative Dentistry in Korea. We have adopted a new, modern and fresh design. We will publish all the articles in English from the 3rd issue of Volume 37, which is to be published in August 2012. These changes were initiated by the leadership of our former president Professor Seung-Ho Baek, and are succeeded by the present president Professor Sung-Kyo Kim. Full text pdf files of RDE will be indexed on, and can be tracked and downloaded on KoreaMed (http://www.koreamed.org) and KoreaMed Synapse (http://synapse.koreamed.org). We expect that these changes will allow our members to open their eyes to a wider world, will stimulate them to set their goals higher, and will make our journal more valuable to keep up with and use as reference. We hope to introduce our research results to foreign readers, to communicate with them and to be cited world-wide. Ultimately, we hope to upgrade our research, education and clinical services.

To achieve such goals, a scientific journal must be nourished by high-quality submissions. All the members of KACD are expected to consider RDE as the first journal to publish their research results. All the dentists and researchers from all over the world, who are interested in the research and developments on new knowledge and innovations pertinent to the field of contemporary clinical operative dentistry, restorative dentistry, and endodontics, shall always be welcome. The editorial board will keep and develop a strict and fair peer-review system, exact editing processes, and a speedy publication. From the first executive committee meeting to today's new start, the editor has always appreciated the wholehearted devotion of the executive committee staffs of the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board and KACD will continuously pursue to internationalize RDE. Let's go together. We know that the more diverse the readers of RED are, the better the authors and submissions will be.
