Abstract

In the last few decades the aviation industry has seen a tremendous increase in the development of the aircraft avionics. There has been a rapid rise in the production of the passenger and military aircrafts along with the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). With the increase in number of such vehicles there is a need to make them reliable and efficient whether the vehicle belongs for passenger or military applications. Avionics which in general means the electronics applied to aviation, plays a vital role in the development of the aviation industry. Also with proper avionics the number of aircraft accidents and mishaps can be reduced significantly as it eliminates human error significantly. Avionics in general includes communication and navigation techniques, a collection of inter connected controller and actuator system, data acquisition, display system, and most importantly a reliable wiring harness which can withstand harsh environment and has a long life. The intention of this review paper is to enlighten the reader with the current trends and the development in the avionics system taking place. This review article gives immense help to the upcoming researchers and designers in the field of avionics applications. The paper work includes recent trends and developments in communication system, use of different controllers, UAVs and protocols used for data transfer between different nodes within an aircraft.
