Emerging researchers and professionals in integrated care: Shaping your career (a career panel discussion)

Background

Emerging researchers and professionals may struggle navigating their future career, from continuing professional development to job prospects. More specifically, the field of integrated care is vast. Professional roles for integrated care specialists are rare, and the very definition and boundaries of integrated care are unclear even to potential employers.   

Aims and objectives

The main aims and objectives of this workshop are for participants to:

•              Discover tips and lessons-learned from experts in the integrated care field

•              Have the opportunity to learn how to shape their own careers

•              Discuss different career choices within the integrated care practice and research field

Format

This workshop will be 60 minutes. There will be four panel members. Each panel member will spend five minutes discussing their career pathways. The presentations will provide tips and lessons-learned making them practical and captivating for participants.

The next 30-40 minutes will be structured as an open question and answer session, with questions fielded from audience members.

The workshop facilitator will provide structured support around the following topics:

•              Publishing tips for emerging researchers

•              What do I do next after completing a PhD?

•              For professionals or students considering doing a PhD or research-based masters, what should they consider in terms of the optimal timing?

•              Are there specific professional roles for integrated care specialists?

If the audience is conducive, the final 10 minutes will be structured as a break-out session where each panel member will sit at a table and audience members can sit at a table for more targeted question and answers, related to their specific background. 

The aim is for panel members to come from the following backgrounds, from around the world:

• Researcher

• Policy maker

• Practitioner / Program Manager / Implementer

• Clinician / Medical lead

Target audience

This workshop has been designed for early-career or emerging researchers and professionals in the integrated care field.

Learnings/Take away

Participants will feel inspired about the prospects and opportunities that exist in the integrated care field. They will come away having a clearer idea on how to create their own opportunities and advance themselves in their career-pathway of choice.
