Coccopsilis pectinata Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2020, sp. nov.

Description

Coccopsilis pectinata sp. nov.

Figs 4–5

Diagnosis. This new species shows all the characters we regard as typical of Coccopsilis. A structure specific to C. pectinata is the gonostylus, which in its ventral aspect is more than twice as long as wide, nearly parallel-sided, and equipped with a long, comb-shaped claw that occupies about two thirds of the gonostylar length. Since all the spines forming the comb are equally long, its edge is straight rather than rounded (Fig. 4, ↓ 3). Females and preimaginal stages of this species are unknown.

Other male characters. Body size 1.3 mm. Head. Eye bridge 1 ommatidium long at vertex. Antenna longer than body, as long as wing. 12 flagellomeres; apical flagellomere long, composed of two bodies; circumfila on flagellomeres 1–11. Neck of fourth flagellomere 1.7 times as long as node (Fig. 5). Palpus slightly shorter than head height, 4 setose, subcylindrical segments, apical segment longest of all. Thorax. Pronotum with 0–1 seta; anepisternum with 1 seta; anepimeron with 0–2 setae. Wing. Length / width ratio 3.3. Legs. Foreleg: femur slightly longer than tibia, tibia 0.8 times as long as T 2. Genitalia (Fig. 4). Gonocoxal synsclerite: processes slightly bent, apices curved ventrally; dorsoposterior portions broad, somewhat angular, only slightly prolonged posteriorly. Aedeagal apodeme about as long as parameres, slender, moderately sclerotized with membranous apex. Parameres of speciesspecific outline as illustrated, including a slightly notched apex (↓ 4).

Etymology. The Latin adjective pectinata means pectinate or ̒with a comb’, with reference to the gonostylar claw whose size and shape are characteristic of this species.

Type material. Holotype. Male, Sweden, Blekinge, Tromtö nabb, mixed forest of beech and oak, 7–21 July 2003, Malaise trap, Swedish Malaise Trap Project (trap 23, collecting event 433) (spn. CEC 2548 in NHRS). Paratypes. 1 male, Sweden, Småland, Nybro, Bäckebo, Grytsjön NR, hay meadow at forest edge, 19–27 June 2005, MT, SMTP (trap 1001, collecting event 1330) (spn. CEC 2549 in SDEI); 1 male, same locality but old-growth aspen forest, 2–12 July 2005, MT, SMTP (trap 1000, collecting event 1323) (spn. CEC 2550 in NHRS); 1 male, same locality, 19 June–16 July 2014, MT, MCJ (spn. CEC 2551 in SDEI).
