Nyctiophylax (Paranyctiophylax) anosib, new species

Diagnosis: This species has a mesoventral branch on the gonopods developed into a large lobe. These lobes are each accompanied by slender dorsal and ventral paraproctal processes. Most Afrotropical Nyctiophylax species have similar gonopods, and N. (P.) anosib, new species, is distinguished from the other species in that the gonopods have larger ventral branches and a narrower interlobular gap.
Description: Male. Body uniformly dark brown. Maxillary palp formula (I,II)-IV-III-V. Forewing length 4.3 mm. Forewings each with anal veins A1, A2, and A3 looped.
Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX reduced to robust sternite, rounded in lateral view, especially anteriorly (Fig. 72); tergum IX membranous, with no narrow sclerotized stripe discernible. Segment X membranous, small triangular, almost as long as gonopods in lateral view (Fig. 72) and apically truncate in dorsal view (Fig. 73). Cerci setose, narrow, elongate in lateral view, slightly curving mesad in dorsal view, as long as dorsal paraproctal processes. Paraproctal complexes well-developed, highly sclerotized, smooth; each composed of (1) paraproctal base (anterior body formed by meeting point of dorsal and ventral paraproctal processes) narrow, (2) dorsal paraproctal process slender, slightly longer, laterad-curving, and (3) ventral paraproctal process slightly shorter, curving, and tapering. Gonopods (Fig. 72, 74) robust, broad, each with well-developed dorsal and mesoventral branches; dorsal branch long, curving dorsad in lateral view; mesoventral branch shorter, resembling thumb of mitten, especially in ventral view; apices of dorsal and ventral branches blunt. Phallic apparatus (Fig. 75) located dorsally in genitalia, guided by paraproctal processes; forming simple tube with apical membranes and without visible sclerites or spines.
Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Anosibe, km 57 route, 1955 [R. Paulian]—(MNHN).
Distribution: Madagascar.
Etymology: Anosib, after the type locality.
