Etymology: tricolor = tri, Latin for three + color, Latin for colored.

Larva described. Yes (Costa & Carneiro 1994).

Material examined. (1 ♂ + 1 ♀): 1 ♂ + 1 ♀ Brazil: Espírito Santo — Flona do Rio Preto —P99, 23.iii.2005, K.S. Furieri, R. Kawada, R. & R.R. Silva leg.

Distribution. Brazil ( Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina), Argentina (Misiones) and Guyana.

Diagnostic characters. Cercus in lateral view: basal 2/3 straight, apical 1/3 comma–like with a very narrow tip covered with long pale setae. Cercus in medioventral view: basal and apical expansions semicircular, without spines. Paraproct in lateral view: less than half the length of cercus. Paraproct in dorsal view: narrow and slightly triangular.

♀ —Basal plate: species belonging to basal plate group 1 (Fig. 38), with dorsal side longer than ventral side. Posterior side with ventral section twice the length of the dorsal section. Convex dorsal and ventral sides. Dorsal section of posterior side slightly concave (Fig. 39F). Pectoral color pattern as in Fig. 40L.
