Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 101.1 (S); Herb. Linn. No. 287.1 (LINN); [icon] in Plukenet, Phytographia: t. 10, f. 4. 1691; Almag. Bot.: 26. 1696; [icon] in Burman, Thes. Zeylan.: 16, t. 5, f. 3. 1737.
Current name: Achyranthes indica (L.) Mill. (Amaranthaceae).
Note: Although some authors (e.g. Fawcett & Rendle, Fl. Jamaica 3: 136. 1914; Townsend in Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Amaranthaceae: 102. 1985) treat the type as from the Hermann herbarium (BM), and therefore homotypic with var. aspera L., var. indica has as the source of its diagnosis a Burman description and figure. In addition, although some authors treat A. indica (L.) Mill. as synonymous with A. aspera, others do not.
