Description

Lobelia trapa Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 929. 1753 orth. var.

"Habitat in Peru." RCN: 6740.

Lectotype (Matthews in Kew Mag. 5: 161. 1988): [icon] "Rapuntium spicatum,foliis acutis, vulgo Tupa" in Feuillée, J. Obs. 2: 739, t. 29. 1714.

Current name: Lobelia tupa L. (Campanulaceae).

Note: The specific epithet was drawn from Feuillée’s phrase name, misquoted by Linnaeus as "Rap. spicatum, fol. auritis, vulgo Trapa". He corrected the spelling in Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1318 (1763).
