Description
Lichen fragilis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1154. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae alpibus alpinisque, per Sueciam in rupibus." RCN: 8243.
Lectotype (Howe in Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 39: 201. 1912; Wedin in Pl. Syst. Evol. 187: 229, f. 2. 1993): Herb. Linn. No. 1273.261, uppermost specimen (LINN).
Current name: Sphaerophorus fragilis (L.) Pers. (Sphaerophoraceae).
Note: See review by Jørgensen & al. (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 115: 312-313, f. 32. 1994). Howe’s original type choice was subsequently restricted to one specimen by Wedin.
