Description
Trifolium pratense Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 768. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae graminosis." RCN: 5657.
Lectotype (Polhill in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 96. 1993): Herb. Clifford: 375, Trifolium 16, sheet A (BM-000646751).
Generitype of Trifolium Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 177. 1929).
Current name: Trifolium pratense L. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: Zohary (in Candollea 27: 112. 1972) indicated Clifford material (BM) as the type, but did not distinguish between two sheets associated with this name (which are not part of the same gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply). Polhill subsequently designated one of these sheets as lectotype.
