Description

Mentha spicata Linnaeus var. longifolia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 576. 1753.

RCN: 4202.

Replaced synonym of: Mentha sylvestris L. (1763), nom. illeg.

Lectotype (Tucker & al. in Taxon 29: 234, f. 3. 1980): Herb. Burser XIII: 9 (UPS).

Current name: Mentha longifolia (L.) Huds. (Lamiaceae).

Note: Hedge & Lamond (in Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 28: 95. 1968) indicated unspecified (and unseen) material in the Clifford herbarium (BM) as type but there is no material there associated with this name.
