Description

Hedysarum virginicum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 750. 1753.

"Habitat in Virginia." RCN: 5537.

Lectotype (Reveal in Turland & Jarvis in Taxon 46: 473. 1997): Clayton 614, left specimen (BM-000051647; iso- BM).

Current name: Aeschynomene virginica (L.) Britton & al. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Rudd (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 32: 56. 1955) indicated Clayton 564 and Clayton 614 (mounted on the same sheet but not part of a single gathering) as syntypes. Reveal subsequently designated the latter as lectotype.
