Description
Hedysarum violaceum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 749. 1753.
"Habitat in Virginia." RCN: 5521.
Lectotype (Clewell in Rhodora 68: 390, 392. 1966): Kalm, Herb. Linn. No. 921.41 (LINN; iso- UPS, BM).
Current name: Lespedeza violacea (L.) Pers. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: See extensive discussion by Reveal & Barrie (in Phytologia 71: 456-461. 1991) where they conclude that the lectotype belongs to what has been known as L. intermedia Britton, for which L. violacea becomes the correct name.
