Ariasa bilaqueata (Uhler, 1903)

Cicada bilaqueata Uhler 1903: 7. (Chapada, Brazil)

REMARKS. The species has been associated with the Chaco floristic province in Argentina (Sanborn & Heath 2014). It can be distinguished from A. nigrovittata Distant, 1905d by the larger body size (greater than 30 mm vs. about 28 mm), a head and thorax that is only marked with piceous rather than being mainly piceous, and the lack of a transverse piceous fascia on the anterior pronotal collar.

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, French Guiana, and Venezuela (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2013; 2016c; Sanborn & Heath 2014). The species was recently added to the Bolivian cicada fauna (Sanborn 2016c).

Wappes ” one male (UGCA); “ BOLIVIA: Santa Cruz, 3.7 km / SSE Buena Vista, Hotel Flora / & Fauna 430m; 5–15–XI–2001 / coll. M.C. Thomas & B. Dozier / tropical transition forest, BLT ” two females (AFSC); “ Bolivia, Dpto. Pando / Provincia Federico Román / Nueva Esperaza / 10° 03’29.76”S / 65°20’26.54”W / Altitud 110 m / 17/July/2007 ” one male (AFSC, from Gonzalo Navarro).
