Lepidiota lepidosterna Lea, 1926: 59.
Holotype (by original designation) female (Figs. 26–28): Groote Eylandt [13.68°S, 136.72°E] N. Territory N.B. Tindale (typeset on green label); lepidosterna (handwritten) Lea, TYPE (typeset) Groote Eyl (handwritten) | I.15473 Lepidiota lepidosterna Lea Groote Eylandt (handwritten) TYPE (handwritten in red, at right angle) | SAMA Database No. 25-035295 (typeset on green label) | my holotype label; in SAM.
Lea (1926) did not define the type series, seeing an unknown number of males (probably one) (vide Articles 73.1.2, 72.1.1). He unequivocally designated a “Type” with the SAM registration number I.15473 (vide Article 73.1.1). It is presumably the female specimen considered as the holotype by Britton (1978), although not labelled by him, and is the one noted as the holotype by Houston & Weir (1992).
