Description

Naitingis gollneri sp. nov. (Figs 11, 12)

urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: 3EA3FBC9-C28D-424D-AD3E-DB033913E871

Type material. Holotype male, Amber Mountain, “Baobab track”, 12°29.223’S 49°10.217’E, 08/XI/2007, E. Guilbert coll. (PBZT).

Paratypes, 1 male, 1 female, same data as for holotype (MNHN).

Diagnosis. Body oblong, hemelytra with uniseriate costal area, the areolae subquadrate and larger than on the rest of hemelytra.

Description. Body oval, shiny, glabrous, brownish, center of hemelytral areas, tip of tarsi and last antennal segment darker. Male (N=1) body length, 2.40; width, 1.05 at widest part.

Head round, with an occipital and a frontal pair of spines, a very short median spine, occipital spines long and slender, almost reaching base of frontal spines; frontal spines shorter, convergent, tips touching; bucculae wide and short, three rows of areolae, not surpassing clypeus, in contact anteriorly; rostrum short, reaching middle of mesosternum, antennae long and slender, antennal segment measurements, I,0.13; II, 0.10; III, 0.53; IV, 0.28.

Pronotum longer than wide, punctate, areolate on posterior process, tricarinate, carinae narrow, ridge-like; ridge-like paranota present all along; posterior process long and triangular; rostral sulcus widening posteriorly, laminae narrow and uniseriate; metathoracic opening auricular large.

Hemelytra twice longer than wide, divided in the usual areas; costal area slightly widened at base, uniseriate, areolae large and subquadrate; subcostal area wider than costal area, rather flat, triseriate, areolae round and smaller than on costal area; discoidal area half the length of hemelytra, five areolae wide at widest part, areolae round and slightly larger than on subcostal area; sutural area two third the length of hemelytra, wide at apex, eight areolae wide at widest part, areolae same size than on discoidal area.

Etymology. The species is named in memoriam of Dr. Ursula Göllner-Scheiding (Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin), an eminent heteropterist who published a large, important work on the systematics of the African Tingidae (Göllner-Scheiding 2004).

Comments. The genus Naitingis is distributed in Equatorial Africa from the Gulf of Guinea to Madagascar. Two species inhabit Madagascar, namely N. blukwana (Drake) and N. insulana Duarte Rodrigues. Naitingis blukwana resembles this new species but differs from it by the biseriate costal area opposite to the apex of the discoidal area. Naitingis insulana differs by the transverse dark band on hemelytra, the shorter size, the median carinae not reaching calli, and the smaller areolae on costal area.
