Schenkling 1921: 100 (as H. brasiliensis; as Gymnetis prothoracica); Blackwelder 1944: 263 (as Gymnetis prothoracica); Shaughney and Ratcliffe 2015: 595 (NA). Note. Blackwelder (1944: 163) considers Hoplopyga brasiliensis to be a synonym of Gymnetis prothoracica instead of the other way around.
