Description

Jataiba sp.

Mitrapsylla sp. B; Brown & Hodkinson 1988: 77.

Description. Adult. The female was described by Brown & Hodkinson (1988). The male is unknown.

Fifth instar immature unknown.

Distribution. Recorded from Panama (Brown & Hodkinson 1988).

Host plant, biology and habitat. Unknown, probably a species of Copaifera (Fabaceae).

Comments. This unnamed species from Panama was assigned to Mitrapsylla by Brown & Hodkinson (1988). It fits the diagnosis of Jataiba provided above and we transfer it here to this genus. It resembles Jataiba cearensis, J. cognata and J. uncigera in the long, apically pointed genal processes which converge medially, the reduction of the surface spinules on the forewing and the absence of a subbasal incision on the female subgenital plate. It differs from the three species in the longer antennae. More material including males is required for a formal species description.
