ABSTRACT

Cryptocurrency has been proliferated across several industries. Public administration, governance, and democracy are experienced differently in each of these industries and so is cryptocurrency adoption. The intersection of cryptocurrency and the four principles/values are partially underpinned by how ready governments are in terms of dealing with cryptocurrency proliferation. Cryptocurrency proliferation requires a certain degree of readiness – herein referred to as crypto-readiness. Cryptocurrency regulation is still in its infancy despite it being a crucial part of equation for gauging public policy/administration and good governance outcomes. Cryptocurrency has a similarly nuanced intersection with efficiency and effectiveness. Since cryptocurrency transactions do not require a middle-man, efficiency abounds. Cryptocurrency proliferation is accompanied by high energy consumption associated with mining the currency. The liberalizing effect of cryptocurrency has enabled even layperson to use their self-taught talents to access large income streams that they have used to pay off student loan debt, start businesses and companies, invested, and pursue a host of other economic ventures.
