Abstract | Icing and wind subject structures such as power transmission towers and antennas to severe ice loads. The magnitude of the load depends upon the shape of the tower and upon the weather. This paper discusses the relationships between the structure and the load, the load and the weather, and the structure and the shape of the deposit. It describes some German experiences in the design of towers and presents tentative recommendations concerning the specifications of ice loads. |
