The effect of pressure on several types of organic reactions, important from the synthetic point of view, is described in order to illustrate the present situation and prospects of high pressure techniques in organic synthesis. Theabove-mentioned problem is exemplified by the pressure-mediated processes based on the transesterification reaction. Application of these processes to the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds, which can serve as so-called supramolecular devices, are also presented.
