A Clinical Analysis of the Children's Ankle Fractures
Abstract
The authors have made a clinical analysis upon 14 cases of children’s ankle fractures and the following observations were obtainable: l. Of the 14 cases, 12 were male and most were at their adolescent ages. 2. The most common cause of injury was sports activity being in 8 cases, and the next was outdoor accident. 3. The distribution of cases in reference to classification of childhood ankle fractures by modified Dias and Tachdjian(1978) showed 7 in Supination-External Rotation, 3 in Supination-Inversion, 2 in Pronation-Eversion-External Rotation, 2 in Triplane fracture, 1 in Juvenile Tillaux. 4. The treatments performed were somewhat variable to include closed reduction and cast immobilization for 7 cases, closed reduction and percutaneous K-wire fixation for 2 cases and open reducion and internal fixation for 5 cases, but the goal of them was largely of one thing which was to get anatomical reduction as possible of articular surface and growth plate. 5. There were very little complications experienced at 1 year follow up at shortest to have premature epiphyseal closure in 2 cases by radiograph and measurable shortening(0.5cm) in 1 case telling us that prognosis of ankle fractures in growing period is good in general.
