Clinical Observation of Acute Hematogenous Osteomyelitis

    Abstract

    A clinical review and analysis of all patients with acute osteomyelitis admitted to SNUH during the period. Jan 1, 1963, to June 30, 1967 was undertaken. The results are, 1. Of the 34 cases, there were 20 male patients, ocupying two third of all patients. 2. The age group under 10 years old occupied 64.6%. 3. The incidence of acute osteomyelitis has been increasing in these 4 years. 4. The frequeney of bone involved was as follows, femur, tibia, humerus. spine, fibular, radius. 5. Of the 23 strains cultured, 20 cases (87.5%)were coagulase (+) staphylococcus, while 3 cases(12.5%) were hemolytic streptococcus. 6. In this series of cases. 93.7% of strains of coagulase (+) staphylococcus were found to be resistant to penicillin.
