Abstract

This paper is concerned with the correlation between nutritional condition and the extent of pulmonary tuberculosis in 100 cases of patients. In order to evaluate the nutritional condition of patient, author had simply measured and analyzed the values of serum total protein, serum albumin and serum globulin concentration and of hemoglobin concentration in each patient. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The average values of serum total protein, serum albumin and globulin in 100 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were 6.42 gm./dl, 3.77 gm./dl and 2.65 gm./dl/ respectively, and all these values were lower than the mean values in normal healthy individuals. 2. about a quarter of all patients was revealed the under nutritional conditions, such as hypoalbuminemia and/or hypohemoglobinemia. 3. It seemed that the longer the history of patients, the higher the incidences of hypoproteinemia, hypohemoglobinemia and of reverse A/G ratio. 4. It was revealed that the average values of serum total protein and serum albumin in urban patients were higher than that of rural one. However, the incidence of hypoalbuminemia in urban patients was slightly higher than that of rural one. 5. The average values of serum total protein and serum albumin were revealed lower in those who were far advanced, sputum positive and cavitary lesions than those somewhat less extensive cases. 6. In hypoalbuminemia patients, the abnormal electrocardiographic tracing revealed chiefly the left ventricular and/or myocardial strains.
