A Study on Lifestyle Behaviors and Health Status of Foreign Workers in Small or Medium-sized Businesses

The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that affect health status on foreign workers in a city. The subjects were 2,641 foreign workers who visited K clinic for 1st screening test in G and J city. Data were collected from January 1 to December 31, 2012 through the health checkups dataset. Three questions regarding socio-demographic characteristics, 11 questions regarding lifestyle behaviors characteristics, and 13 questions regarding health status examination including a blood test were included. Second data were analyzed with the descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression using SPSS 20.0 program. Prevalence rate of foreign workers health problem was obesity 18.1%, hypertension 2.2%, diabetes mellitus 2.5%, dyslipidemia 32.9%, liver dysfunction 8.5%, metabolic syndrome 5.6%. Significant predictor for obesity, hypertension, liver dysfunction, and metabolic syndrome was alcohol drinking. physical exercise was significant predictor for obesity. This study will be a useful in establishing a detailed policy on enhancing health management education for foreign workers in the future.
