본 연구는 일상 안에서 유아 교사들이 경험하는 유아 배려행동의 특징과 지도 과정에서의 어려움을 알아보고, 배려교육을 위한 교사들의 제안을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 교육경력 3년 이상의 어린이집 교사 13명과 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 교사들이 경험한 유아 배려행동의 특징은 공감을 토대로 한 돌봄과 이해득실을 계산하지 않는 베풂, 타인과의 관계 안에서 드러나는 배려행동, 자기배려보다 우선시 된 타인배려로 나타났다. 또한 교사들은 진심이 결여된 채 형식적으로만 나타나는 유아의 배려행동과 배려개념에 대한 교사 본인의 이해 부족, 성인과 다른 유동성과 변수를 지닌 유아의 배려행동으로 인하여 지도하는데 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 교사들은 유아 배려행동을 증진하기 위한 방안으로 배려의 토대부터 만들어가는 교육의 실천, 배려에 대한 교사의 이해를 돕는 프로그램의 개발, 일상적인 배려가 가능한 교육환경의 구성을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 의의는 배려교육의 방향과 보완점을 배려교육의 실행 주체인 교사의 경험을 통해 파악하였다는 점, 유아 배려행동이 단편적 행위에 그치지 않고 일상적인 실천으로 이어지기 위한 방향을 탐색하였다는 점이다.

This study examined early childhood teachers’ experiences of children’s caring behaviors and suggestions for enhancing caring behaviors in peer relationships. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 early childhood teachers who have more than 3 years of teaching experience. The children’s caring behaviors experienced by the teachers were characterized by caring that was based on empathy, caring without expectations for reward, caring behaviors that were dependent on the mutual relationships, and caring for others that took priority over caring for oneself. The teachers experienced difficulties when children showed caring behaviors without sincerity. Teachers also felt difficulties due to their lack of understanding about the concept of caring as well as multiple factors that influence children’s caring behaviors. To enhance children’s caring behaviors, the teachers suggested education that builds on solid foundations for caring, development of teacher education programs, and the formation of an atmosphere that enables daily practice of caring behaviors in peer relationships. This study provided implications for the direction of education to promote children’s caring behaviors based on the experiences of teachers who play important roles in the education for caring behaviors.
