Purpose : The aim of this study was to investigate disaster perception, disaster preparedness and disaster nursing competency among Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) cadet and to identify factors influencing disaster nursing competency. Methods : A cross-sectional study was done with a convenience sample of 322 cadets from KAFNA. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires during July and August, 2017. 313 valid questionnaires were statistically analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results : The item mean scores for disaster perception, disaster preparedness, and disaster nursing competency were 3.32±6.47, 8.21±2.91, and 3.34±0.80 respectively. There were significant positive correlations between disaster preparedness and disaster nursing competency(r=.694, p<.001). Disaster preparedness and disaster nursing education showed to be significant factors in disaster nursing competency(F=147.65, p<.001). Conclusion : It is important to introduce items which help learners prepare for disasters to improve their disaster nursing competency into the KAFNA curriculum. A future study with regard to comparison between Korea Armed Forces Nursing Cadets and civilian nursing school students would be useful.
