Abstract

In this study, to separate electron- and proton-induced cascades in the calorimeter at energies above 300 GeV, it is proposed to use the difference in the cascade absorption lengths of these particles. The applicability of the proposed criterion to reject hadron events in selecting electron-induced cascades in the “PAMELA” calorimeter is studied. The efficiency and applicability limits of this separation method are estimated.
