Abstract
Steel smelting from a carbon intermediate product in 160-t converters with combined injection is described. The chosen conditions of bath injection and the addition of slag-forming materials improve the slag conditions, maintain long lining life, improve the thermal balance, reduce the melt duration, increase the final yield (the melt mass), and increase the assimilation of manganese from ferroalloys. The reequipment of the converter shop boosts steel output to 4.2 million t/yr.
