abstract

The present research will focus on the Armenian travel diaries written by two Jewish-Russians: the first is the known Symbolist and Acmeist who died in the Soviet correction camp singing Armenia in his pages permeated with metaphysical reflections; the second is the essayist who joined the reflective prose of the ’70s. The diaries are two totally distinct works, Journey to Armenia by Osip Mandel’štam with its syntactic-stylistic refinement, the philosophical themes, the hermetic language, and Nostalgia for Armenia by Jurij Karabčievskij centred on the inner crisis of a Soviet man who tries to redefine his complex and dual identity in the Soviet reality. Hence, the present paper aims to study the diverse approach of the two authors to their origins in the Soviet socio-political context.
