We have conducted photoluminescence (PL) measurements under hydrostatic pressures to 1.6 GPa and magnetic fields to 60 T at low temperatures in a 1.0 nm thick CdTe/Cd1−xMnxTe (x=0.4) single quantum well (SQW). A novel phenomenon in which an exciton PL peak from the well vanishes at 1.6 GPa and is restored by the application of a high magnetic field, was observed. We examine the possibility that the exciton energy might be dissipated to Mn 3d-states.
