예비영어교사의 문제해결역량 증진을 위한 디자인사고 프로세스 활용 프로젝트 연구

A Study on a Project with the Design Thinking Process to Facilitate Pre-service Teachers’ Problem-solving Competences

본 연구는 문제기반학습 및 디자인사고 프로세스를 활용한 문제해결 프로젝트를 개발하고 그것을 수행한 경험이 예비영어교사들의 문제해결능력 증진에 미치는 영향과 학생들의 만족도 및 효과에 대한 인식을 연구하였다. 사범대학 영어교육과에서 영어교재연구및지도법 과목을 수강하는 48명의 예비교사들이 프로젝트에 참여하였다. 예비교사들은 교육 현장에서 발견한 문제에 대하여 소그룹 단위로 디자인사고 프로세스의 여러 과정을 거쳐 해결책을 구체화하였다. 프로젝트에 참여한 예비교사 들은 프로젝트 수행의 사전 사후에 각각 문제해결능력 검사를 실시하였고, 사후에는 추가적으로 만족도와 효과에 대한 인식을 묻는 심층 설문을 작성하였다. 문제해결능력 검사지 분석 결과 예비교사들은 문제해결 자신감, 직면 회피 스타일, 자기 통제등 세 가지 각각의 하위 영역과 전체 영역의 합에서 사후 검사결과가 유의미하게 높아 프로젝트가 문제해결능력 증진에 효과가 있었던 것으로 분석되었다. 프로젝트에 대한 심층 설문을 분석한 결과, 흥미도, 참여도, 그리고 문제해결능력강화에 도움이된 정도 등 주요 문항에 있어 예비교사들이 매우 긍정적 인식을 갖고 있음이 드러났다. 예비교사들은 논리적 사고 및 협력적 과정을 통하여 문제를 해결하는 과정에서 도전과 보람을 느꼈고 교사로서의 성장을 경험한 것으로 나타났다.

This study aims to investigate how a problem-based project with the design thinking process facilitates pre-service English teachers’ problem-solving competences and examine their perceptions on the effectiveness of the project. 48 college students taking the Methods and Materials for TEFL course participated in the study. The students were instructed to observe and identify some problems from the field. In groups of 4-5, students went through the various design thinking process stages and methods to develop a solution prototype for their chosen problem. Pre-post comparisons of their problem-solving competence tests revealed that the students’ problem-solving competences have increased significantly both in total and in all of the subcategories after the project. Analyses of the in-depth survey after the project found that the students felt that the project was fun and meaningful, that they participated actively, that the project actually helped improve their problem-solving competences, and that it also helped them grow as a confident teacher. The study has several pedagogical implications including the development of a new teacher-training program model
