문학사 교육에서 망명 작가의 문학사적 위치와 의의

: 이미륵을 중심으로

이 논문은 우리 교육에서 문학사의 정의를 ‘우리나라 사람이 우리나라에서 우리말로 쓴 문학’이어야 우리 문학으로 본다는 관점에 대한 반박으로 이미륵의「압록강은 흐른다」작품을 중심으로 망명 작가의 작품도 우리 문학사로 끌어 들여야 함을 제시하고자 하는 데에 목적을 두고 있다. 이미륵이 독일어로 작품을 쓸 수밖에 없는 시공간에서 그가 그려내는 작품 속 시공간은 1900년 이후에서 독일로 건너오기 전 까지인 1920년대 조선에서의 일이다. 작품 속 이야기는 당대의 이야기를 아울러 고전을 적절하게 섞어 이야기를 전개하고 조선의 이야기를 그려냄에도 독일인이 이해 할 수 있는 설명을 섞어가면서 이야기를 이어간다. 조선이라는 한반도의 이야기를 친일 문학이 활개를 치던 1940년대에 독일에서 이미륵은 독일어를 빌려서 지극히 한국스러운 이야기를, 고전과 현대를 잇는 과도기에 있는 듯한 지점의 이야기를, 먼 땅에서 독일어로 그려내고 있다. 이 지극히 한국스러운 이야기는 독일 문학이 아닌 한국 문학 곧 우리 문학임을 기억하고 흩어져 있는 우리 문학을 소홀히 여기거나 잃어버리지 않도록 우리 문학사로 끌어 들여 우리 문학사의 풍성한 면모를 제시하고자 하는데 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this research is to raise an issue that the works by writers in exile should be included in Korean literary history such as The Yalu river flows by Mirok Li. It is also a question contrary to the definition of Korean literary history, which defines literary pieces written by Korean people in Korean language. Writers use particular languages for the readers in the time and place where they belong to. Mirok Li was in the circumstances which allowed him to write his works only in German. He wrote about life in Joseon based on his memory of the 1920 s before his move to Germany. He tells of his own experiences mixed with the old stories in the time of Joseon to German readers, which explains people to understand more about Joseon. During the 1940 s in Colonial Joseon, in the unfortunate and chaotic time of his home country, Mirok Li wrote such Korean stories in a foreign language, German. His works are certainly a part of Korean literature, needing to be embraced in Korean literary history, not in German literary. Therefore, Mirok Li and other writers in exile need to gain more attention to enable the discovery of the value of their striving in different languages, the diversity of Korean writers and to extend the wide perspective on Korean literary history.
