Abstract

Objective: The effects of selenium yeast tablets combined with sodium levothyroxine on serum myocardial enzymes, creatine kinase, homocysteine (Hcy) and lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] in patients with hypothyroidism were studied in this paper.

Methods: From June 2016 to January 2018, 96 patients with hypothyroidism were randomly selected and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group with 48 cases in each group. Both groups were given low salt diets. The patients in the control group were treated with levothyroxine sodium tablets and the patients in the experimental group were treated with levothyroxine sodium combined with selenium yeast tablets for three months. The clinical efficacy (marked, improved, ineffective), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), Hcy, Lp(a), thyroid function (FT3, free methylmethionine, FT4 and TSH) were observed before and after treatment.

Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the experimental group was 95.83%, significantly higher than the control group (83.33%) (P<0.05). Compared with their states before treatment, the levels of LDH, AST, CK and CK-MB in the experimental group and the control group decreased significantly, and the indexes in the experimental group decreased more significantly (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of Hcy and Lp(a) in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of FT3 and FT4 in the two groups increased significantly, and the levels of TSH decreased significantly. The levels of FT3 and FT4 in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the levels of TSH were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Selenium yeast tablets combined with levothyroxine sodium has obvious therapeutic effects on hypothyroidism, which can significantly reduce myocardial enzymatic indexes. Hcy and Lp(a) levels and play an important role in the recovery of thyroid function. This finding has wide clinical applications.
