AB - The purpose of the study is twofold; first, to examine the lexical and syntactic properties of the so-called ‘double passive constructions’ in Korean; second, to devise an efficient method in order to incorporate the ‘double passive constructions’ into the theoretical framework of HPSG. The research proposes that, unlike the existing approaches, the passive feature [PASS+] be instantiated both on main verbs and the auxiliary verb ‘-jida’, which seems more appropriate for native speakers’ intuition. The research result also reveals that the meaning structure of the Korean ‘double passive’ constructions needs to be further expanded in detail(e.g., emphasis (emp), change of state(cos), speakers’ point of view(pov)) according to their respective situations.

초록
