Julia Boelle is a PhD graduate of Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture. Her research interests are in the fields of disaster and crisis communications. In the past year, she has worked on two community journalism projects focusing on the experiences of community journalists and successful funding models. She has also been involved in a project investigating the UK government's communication of pandemics and Covid-19.
Cate Hopkins, Cardiff University, United Kingdom
Cate is a doctoral researcher at the Data Justice Lab in Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media, and Culture, where her research is funded by a grant from the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC). Her PhD project is concerned with the ways in which ideas about surveillance impact on trade union campaigns and organisation. Her research interests broadly include trade unions, surveillance, datafication and data justice, resistance, and solidarity.
Petra Kovačević, Cardiff University, United Kingdom
Petra Kovacevic is a PhD student at Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media & Culture. She is also a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Journalism & Media Production, University of Zagreb, and a team member on the research project "Journalism Research Lab", funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. Her research interests include new journalistic practices, such as constructive journalism and solutions journalism, the culture of newsroom experiments, innovative and interactive journalistic storytelling techniques, journalistic content intended for young audiences, with a special focus on TV and video production.

Andy Nelmes is a PhD student at Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Culture researching the news ecosystem of a city in the UK looking at the power dynamics of local news as it travels between declining traditional media and emerging hyperlocals.
Rachel Phillips, Cardiff University, United Kingdom
Rachel Phillips is a PhD student at Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Culture. Her research interests include digital activism, feminist activism, celebrity studies and violence against women and girls.

Abstract

This is the editorial of JOMEC Journal’s issue 16, which is an open issue covering a wide array of topics in the fields of journalism, media and culture. The editorial provides an overview of the contents, summarising the included articles and book reviews.
