Abstract:
Research was started in March 1997 on an experimental farm in Villaviciosa, Asturias (5º26’W, 43º28’N), Northern Spain, with two-year-old highbush blueberry plants, cultivated in pots and under Italian-type tunnels.
The aim was to reduce the non-productive period and bring forward the harvesting one.
Three varieties were included in the study: Bluetta, Duke and Sharpblue. A yield was harvested the first year, Sharpblue standing out with 220 g/plant. Bluetta and Sharpblue obtained the best acccumulated commercial yield for the three years of studies, with more than 1,300 g/plant.
The ripening period started every year at the end of May.
