Abstract:
Morphological and cytological studies of F1 progeny of interspecific hybrids between V.corymbosum L. and V.uliginosum L. is preliminary summarized.
V.uliginosum ecotypes are used in a breeding program as a source of stem disease resistance and to improve winterhardiness of the highbush blueberry.
The hybrids populations are characterized by a high variability.
The morphological characters are intermediate between those of the parents with a shift towards the maternal form.
Some promising hybrids for further back crosses have been obtained.
Bluecrop and Herbert cultivars have produced the greatest numbers of selections.
