Objective	MERTAIL is a technological development project designed to create new tools for visual observation of fisheries resources. The cruise aims to collect data to assess the potential of the vertical camera for counting and measuring Nephrop prawns and other benthic animals (leg 1); and evaluate the potential of stereo-photometry to count measure demersal fish (leg 2). This falls under the Bay of Biscay program.

Summary of measurements

-Towing an underwater camera (Merlin system) with a color vertical camera and 2 parallel laser beams for counting and measuring benthic animals (prawns). Recording video tapes and image capture.
-Sediment samples taken using Shipeck grab.
-Towing an underwater camera (Merlin system) with two black and white frontal cameras in order to perfect a processing line of images for stereo-videogrammetry.
