Abstract

The paper presents a review of the criteria for choosing optimum ore preparation flow sheets. The authors analyzed the criteria for selectivity of crushing; a criterion, based on the results of optical microscopy – determination of valuable mineral liberation degree, is proposed. The final estimate of crushing process selectivity (selectivity criterion L0) is performed through calculation of the ratio between quantity of free grains of valuable mineral in given size fraction of crushed material and quantity of free grains of valuable mineral in given size fraction of feed, taking into consideration yield of the size fraction in question. In addition to that, estimate of a specific crushing apparatus optimality of application is performed preliminarily by maximum reduction ratio of material, which is determined by size distribution in feed and crushed products, however, priority is given to maximum selectivity criterion. Verification of the proposed criterion was accomplished by comparison of the Vishnevogorskoye deposit niobium-bearing ores crushing in inertia cone crusher and centrifugal impact crusher. Also, various operating regimes of the crushers were tested. Comparison of selectivity criterion L0 showed, with crushing in inertia cone crusher (ICC) its value is significantly higher, than in crushing in centrifugal impact crusher (CIC). For CIC crusher, criterion L0 is 0.82–0.87 units, while for ICC — 1.43–1.755 units. The most efficient operating regime for crusher ICC-300А, from viewpoint of providing the Vishnevogorskoye deposit niobium-bearing ores selectivity of crushing, is as follows: unbalanced mass slewing angle — 120°, rotary velocity of cone rotation — 23,67 s–1, specific power consumption — 6.99 kW/t.
