Abstract

To observe themal environment in and around Shinjyuku Gyoen during 4:02 am and 4:04 am, we obtained airborne thermal sensor data at the height of 1,500m over the park. The data resolution is two meter and precision is 0.3 degree.
As a result, it was found that temperature around the urban area was higher than in the park. Furthermore, in the park, the temperature of 20 degree centigrade at the grass land was lower than 25-27 degree centigrade at the forest area. To examine the relation between forest height and temperature, we obtained airborne lidar sensor data in the summer and calculated forest height at the two meter grid. As a result, we found that the higher the forest height is, the higher the temperature is. However, even the forest height is high, sparse forest indicated lower temperature. This suggests that the trees in the forest prevent the radiation from the ground in the night.
