The ZnO hexahedrons were prepared by modified hydrothermal procedure and optical emission properties are studies by laser excitation at 355 nm. The hexahedrons have shown exciton lasing emission at moderate excitation power. Under intense excitation, the electron–hole plasma (EHP) lasing was observed when carrier density become larger than the Mott transition density. The low temperature dependent optical emission studies were also done and the emission band showed blue shift on decreasing the sample temperature.
