Abstract

A new design of single cell gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using 75° twist nematic mode has been proposed. The same cell gap as well as the same LC mode is applied to both the transmissive part and the reflective part, therefore the fabrication process is much simplified. The electro-optical characteristics in the transmissive part and reflective part are matched. This single TN transflective configuration exhibits high contrast, wide viewing angle, fast response and high transmittance/reflectance, thus it is suitable for transflective thin film transistor (TFT) LCDs.
