Abstract

We measure the width of denuded or empty zones surrounding clusters growing via coalescence during the annealing of Ga on GaAs(100), annealed above the decomposition temperature for 300 s. It is seen that the width of the zones increases with cluster size. We present arguments to show that these zones are not diffusion-driven but rather produced by a screening mechanism.
