Designing magnetic systems for advanced compact isochronous cyclotrons by means of mathematical simulation

Abstract

Specific features in designing magnetic systems for compact isochronous cyclotrons using the methods of mathematical simulation are described. A method based on the mathematical synthesis of cyclotron electromagnets is suggested that has made it possible to design, fabricate, adjust, and put in production a number of accelerators with common design patterns. Developed systems of movable shims allow magnetic field reconfiguration to provide acceleration of different sorts of ions.
