Abstract

The dynamics of the oxidative and energy metabolism and enzyme systems of blood detoxification were studied in animals with thermal trauma injected with dinitrosyl iron complexes. Dinitrosyl iron complexes were shown to have a positive effect on blood pro- and antioxidant systems in animals experiencing a profound oxidative stress as a result of an experimental thermal injury. In particular, the intensity of lipid peroxidation greatly reduced to reach normal levels, while the antioxidant potential of blood plasma increased significantly. A similar tendency was observed in erythrocyte membranes. It was also established that dinitrosyl iron complexes clearly normalized erythrocyte energy metabolism as soon as by day 3 after trauma. In addition, infusions of dinitrosyl iron complexes markedly stimulated the catalytic activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase in rats with burns.
