Abstract

The previous article provides an overview of the Supermax Library System from Dansk Data Elektronik (DDE) of Copenhagen, Denmark. It describes the functionality of the modules currently available and mentions the fact that it is particularly suitable for use in large academic/research libraries and in public libraries. To meet the requirements of these two very different types of libraries, the system has had to provide both the powerful retrieval and detailed cataloguing demanded by academic libraries together with the transactional power to handle high loans as required by public libraries. These two aspects came out particularly strongly when a visit was made to a couple of the early customers of the Supermax Library System. The first was the Library at the Roskilde University Centre and the second was on the other side of the Jutland Peninsular — the county library based in Herning.
