Abstract

For separable, coupled-channel model interactions we show how to construct energy-independent optical potentials, U¯. The elastic phase shifts and nuclear wave functions obtained from U¯ are identical at all energies with those of the conventional energy-dependent optical potential U(E). Whenever there is strong absorption or a compound resonance U¯ has an extremely rapid variation with momentum.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Energy-independent optical potentials. Separable interaction model; compare momentum dependence of conventional and energy-independent optical potentials; compare with phase-shift-equivalent potentials.
